To address this challenge the German government has announced an initiative to increase the number of skilled workers in the country by 10%. They have decided to increase the visa number from 20,000 to 90,000 for the skilled Indian workforce. This announcement has been widely welcomed. This is kind of a win-win situation for both parties.
With the problem of a shortage of qualified workers being exacerbated, Germany is looking for some skilled workers, especially in the fields of nursing, healthcare, and IT. This initiative can be seen as a stepping stone supported by relaxed immigration policies and the launch of the Opportunity Card—an organized, points-based system similar to Canada's approach.
Meeting a minimum threshold of points qualifies individuals to apply for work visas, ensuring that the process prioritizes highly skilled professionals. This system is particularly effective because it aligns immigration policies with labor market needs, enabling countries to address critical skill shortages.
