If you live in residence halls, you could select the on-campus meal plans, for which you would have to pay around 250 USD/month.

A public transportation monthly pass is between 45 and 100 USD (some universities have discounts for students, but not all). For instance, in Cincinnati, a metro fare card for students is 53 USD/semester and in Nashville, a monthly public transportation pass is 44 USD.

Admission requirements

Each university in the U.S. has its own system on their website that allows future students to apply for and enroll in their degree programs. So, once you select the University of your choice, you can go through their application and submit your materials there.

Documents required for admission

Here are some of the basic requirements needed for the application procedure to study in USA for Indian students:

  • A scanned copy of your diploma certificate (high school or Bachelor’s degree)
  • A transcript/record of your previous courses
  • A scan of your passport
  • Your CV
  • Testing scores
  • Evidence of scholarship or funding
  • Letters of recommendation (between 2-3)
  • Portfolio and/or writing samples

To apply to study in the U.S., you’ll need to provide language certificate as a proof of your English proficiency.

The certificates generally accepted by the universities in U.S. are:

Intakes & Deadlines

U.S Universities have two intakes for admission purposes, namely Fall and Spring semesters. Fall semester starts in late August and ends in late December or early January whereas the Spring semester begins in January and ends in early May.

Unlike other countries, your visa is not guaranteed even if you get an admission confirmation from a USA university. You will have to pass the visa guidelines and requirements. The following are the procedures to initialize visa services to the USA.

  3. Complete DS-160 Form
  4. Pay Visa Application Fees

  6. Attend Appointment Scheduled

  2. The Non-immigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160

Financial requirements

$25000 for the first year, you need to have money of $50000 for the entire duration of the study.
