For the German Opportunity Card, the eligibility works in two ways. The first one is to have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a German university or an equivalent foreign degree. Specific fields of study that are in high demand, such as engineering, IT, and healthcare, are especially beneficial. If you are a vocational training candidate or a licensed professional, you will need to do Anerkennung, which is the recognition of your qualifications in Germany. The great news is that a language score is not required for this simplifying the process. The candidate must also be able to prove that he/she can cover their living cost in Germany.

The second or the points-based way provides an option to individuals where they have to accumulate at least six points in eight different categories. Proof of completed vocational training of at least 2 years duration or a completed university degree, both recognized by the state of attainment, with confirmation from the German Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) and proof of knowledge of German at level A1 or knowledge of English at level B2 with a certificate is required. This alone will fetch you a total of 4 points. Age is an important factor in the point system with importance to younger people. Younger applicants are often more adaptable and may have a greater willingness to integrate into a new cultural and professional environment. The ideal age range for maximum points typically falls between 25 and 40 years. The point ranges are 2 points for below 35 and 1 point for 35 to 40. However, older applicants can still qualify if they excel in other areas, such as qualifications and work experience. Additionally, you must have at least two years of work experience in a high-demand occupation within Germany's labor market. If you are 45 years old or older or will turn 45 while in Germany, you must sign a declaration regarding your retirement provisions.
Adaptability is another important factor for scoring points. Adaptability is assessed through factors such as previous stays in Germany,1 point is for previous stays in Germany. Having family in Germany, or familiarity with German culture can fetch 1 point. This criterion evaluates how well an applicant is likely to integrate into German society, which is crucial for both personal and professional success. Applicants with previous experience living or working in Germany may better understand the local customs, work culture, and language, making their transition smoother.
